They do say you shouldn't judge a fish by its ability to swim, so perhaps we should cut Monty Panesar a break for his terrible Mastermind performance. Either way, Thrillz takes a look at some of the highlights below!
The First Round of Celebrity Mastermind Actually Went Okay...
Despite all the doom and gloom, Monty Panesar actually had a pretty decent first-round in Celebrity Mastermind, scoring a respectable six out of eight questions correctly. He probably wishes that it could have lasted forever.
But alas, unfortunately for Monty, it wasn't to be. Trouble began brewing as he moved into the general knowledge round. Below you'll find a selection of the questions Monty was asked, including some of his hilarious and baffling answers.
The First General Knowledge Question was of the Sports Variety
Luckily for Monty, the first subject John Humphrys decided to fire at him was of the sports variety. The question was: 'how many pockets are there on a full-sized snooker table'?
Monty responded confidently with the correct answer of six. It would only get comically worse from here as the English cricket legend started a nose dive into a series of incorrect and sometimes inexplicable answers.
Zodiac Sign Confusion in First Wrong Answer
John Humphrys unleashes the next general knowledge question. 'Which sign of the zodiac is represented by a crab?'. Monty stutters into a hybrid answer of 'Sagittar- Scorpion'.
Not something we here at Thrillz have ever heard of! The correct answer was, of course, Cancer.
Question Number Three Somehow Involves Harry Potter
'What is the title of AA Milne's stage adaptation of Kenneth Grahame's children's novel, The Wind in the Willow?'. Monty answers with a deadpan 'Harry Potter'.
This is probably where poor Monty Panesar starts to seriously lose confidence. John Humphrys voice delivers the answer: Toad of Toad Hall.
British Royal History and Henry VIII and his Wives Provide Monty Panesar's Next Wrong Answer
'Henry VIII had three wives called Catherine, two called Anne and another who died shortly after she gave birth to the future Edward VI. What was her name?'
Monty answered 'Elizabeth' for this one, which we can forgive him for. At least he chose a royal name, right?
As the Temperature Rises, the Correct Answers Begin to Melt Away
'What is the standard international unit of absolute temperature? It is indicated by the letter K.'.
Monty passed at this question. Fair enough, it's not the easiest question out there. The answer to this one was Kelvin.
Geography is the Next Port of Call for Monty Panesar's Awkward Performance
'Which Asian island city-state is served by Changi International Airport?'
Monty responds with 'Shanghai'. This probably had something to do with the Changi part of the question, but we're not totally sure where Monty is getting any of his answers from at this point.
Monty is Left All at Sea by the Next Question
'Birds described as 'pelagic' spend most of their lives flying over what?'
Monty gives the answer of 'the sky'. We're not quite sure how a bird flies over a sky, but at least he is in the right ballpark for this one. Maybe. The answer is 'the sea'.
A Film Question Finds Monty Lacking his Full Monty and Dreaming of Boys Instead
'In what '97 film do a group of unemployed men in Sheffield become strippers for a night in their local Working Men's Club?'
Dream Boys is the answer provided by Monty. We can't help but smirk at this point.
At Last, Another Sports Question!
Surely Monty would get this one about Germany's National Football Team right. Right?
Sorry guys. Wrong. The question 'In which city is the Olympiastadion, built for the 1972 Olympics and where Germany's national football team played international matches until 2001?' had Monty's geography skills in the spotlight again.
Unfortunately, the wrong answers just keep on coming. For reasons only Monty knows, he responds with 'Athens'. Not a German city we've ever heard of before...
Another Children's Book Question Leaves Poor Monty Grasping for an Answer that Makes Sense, This Time it's C.S. Lewis Chronicles of Narnia
'What is the title of the first volume of CS Lewis' Chronicles of Narnia to be published? Chronologically, it follows The Magician's Nephew.'
Hilariously, Monty doesn't even give the name of an actual book this time. Instead, he responds with 'CJ Lewis'. If any of you guys know who CJ Lewis is, please let us know.
They Say Diamonds are a Girl's Best Friend, They're Certainly not Monty's
'Kimberlite and igneous rock, named after the South African city of Kimberley, is a rich source of what very precious stones?'
Monty starts to respond with the answer of tar until he thinks better of it and just passes. I guess he gets some dignity points for that.
These Questions are Really Starting to Give Monty the Blues
'What were the five guys named in the title of the hit musical that was a tribute to the jazz bluesman Louis Jordan?'
A simple pass response again. I guess we can add blues music to the list of things Monty is unsure of. Five Guys Named Moe was the answer he was looking for.
Now, the Award for Question Least Likely to Have the Answer of Oliver Twist
'In an 1819 poem, what season of the year does Keats describe as 'a season of mists and mellow fruitfulness?'
Logically, Monty only really had four answers that could be correct here. So of course, he went with the most famous season of them all, Oliver Twist. Yeah, we have no idea either.
Monty Panesar finished his glorious stint on Celebrity Mastermind with a total of seven points. But he gave us all many more laughs!
Since You're Here...
