Hugo Hammond: The Early Years
Hugo Hammond was born on 7th August 1996 in Hampshire (UK). Hugo was diagnosed with a condition known as 'clubfoot' (or Congenital Talipes Equino-Varus), which is a common birth defect that affects the formation of muscles and bones in the Achilles tendon of the feet. He announced on the show that he had several operations as a kid, and because his Achilles heel is weak, he walks on tiptoes.
What did Hugo do before Love Island?
Hugo has always been an avid sports player, having also been part of the England Cricket PD (Physical Disability), attending games in Dubai and Bangladesh. He attended Oxford Brookes University and became the PE teacher "Mr. Hammond" at a local secondary school. When did Hugo Hammond join the Love Island Villa?
The drama-filled ITV hit show, Love Island, came back to screens in 2021 for series 7, after a year out due to the Covid lockdown restrictions.
Hugo Hammond sent in his application, and after a few Zoom calls and auditions in London he entered the villa on day 1. He wanted the opportunity to meet some cool people and have an epic summer. Hammond first coupled up with the fiery Sharon, although they split at the first re-coupling, and he admits it was a rocky start.
A number of new girls joined the Love Island villa throughout, of which Hugo then went on a date with Georgia and AJ. After a tense few days, Hugo Hammond and AJ coupled up and explored their relationship, until Hugo decided to end things.
Hugo's best moments on Love Island
Hands down one of the most iconic moments on Love Island 2021 was when he decided to couple up with Chloe Burrows (who was pied by Toby) and shared a speech that shook the nation.
He said: "If I'm being completely honest, this person didn't deserve how she's been treated in these last 24 hours." This caused a bit of beef between Toby and Hugo, who he at first treated as a brother. After this scene, Toby announced in the beach hut that he would remain civil.
Hugo was notorious for speaking his mind and causing a bit of a stir in the sun, especially when it came to personal preferences and the prospect of a relationship. He was thrown into the deep end when Faye chose Teddy at the fire pit, but Hugo rose above it like a phoenix in the ashes.
What is Hugo's catchphrase?
Those who tuned in to watch the ITV dating show will remember Hugo Hammond's popular catchphrases "moving mad" and "relax, brother". This adds to another incredible account in Love Island history.
Why did Hugo leave Love Island?
Hugo was voted off Love Island by his fellow contestants on day 38 in the run-up to the grand finale. Hammond and Casa Amor's Amy Day spent their remaining time together until they were both dumped from the Island.
What happened with Hugo after Love Island?
In his exit interview, Hugo describes his experience as "tragic", meaning that he was hoping to have had more success romantically. In another interview with Cosmopolitan, Hugo proudly asserted: "I leave the villa with big fat zero regrets" even though "there were a lot of highs and a lot of lows, and it didn't go exactly how I wanted it, that was all part of the fun."
Hugo Hammond didn't have the best dating experience compared to his fellow Islanders, and was friend-zoned multiple times. Although when he joined the twister villa Casa Amor, he hit it off with new girl, Amy Day. Hugo fans weren't too surprised to hear that the two broke it off after both being dumped on Friday night. So the search for love continues!
How comes Hugo left the Love Island villa single?
On air with Lorraine, Hugo Hammond later revealed: "'I think potentially I didn’t really want to compromise for love. I‘ve got a type and I know what I’m looking for and I wouldn’t say I was picky, but I just didn’t get that spark that a lot of the other boys were looking for with their girls."
Does Hugo stay in contact with the group?
Hugo Hammond is still in touch with a few of his fellow islanders as well as some old faces from the show, like season two's Zara Holland. Although, following ITV2's Aftersun, he is no longer in contact with Amy. He also has connections with members to help him accept his newfound fame and support for the next steps ahead.
Will Hugo go back to teaching?
Speaking with the Radio Times, Hugo Hammond revealed teaching is "definitely something I want to stay connected with. I absolutely love my job... I’ll just have to see what happens from this great opportunity, and then go from there.”
No doubt the star still has the Midas touch, and was recently spotted breaking up a brawl at a local kebab shop between a young group of people.
