Biography
Martin Roberts is one of the most famous property and lifestyle presenters in the UK. He has presented the BBC’s Homes Under the Hammer for more than 18 years, appearing on over 23 series. Martin has also presented many radio shows since the 1980s, and has worked for BBC Radio, Talk Radio, and more.
Roberts appeared on a diverse variety of television programmes, including game shows, reality series, and more. The presenter has also set up a charity in his own name: Martin Roberts Foundation, which aims to support educational and wellbeing programmes for young people.
Martin’s Early Life and Property Development Career
Roberts was born in Warrington, Cheshire, on 20 July 1963. He attended the University of Bradford in the 1980s, where he studied Electronic Engineering and presented on the university’s radio station, RamAir.
He originally began working as a property developer in the 1990s, which would go on to become a huge part of his life and entertainment career. Roberts was bound for a very successful career involving properties, but not in the conventional way that everyone would assume.
Finding Fame with Homes Under the Hammer
Homes Under the Hammer is one of the most successful property shows on television, and has continued to build a loyal fan base. Martin Roberts has been presenting Homes Under the Hammer since the first episode in 2003, alongside co-host Lucy Alexander. However, Alexander left the show in 2016, and was replaced by Martel Maxwell. Former footballer Dion Dublin has also become a key part of the show.
As a respected property expert, Roberts has written many books on the subject, including Teach Yourself: Making Money from Property (part of the popular Teach Yourself book series) and The Property Auction Guide. Martin is also a successful children’s author, with several books from his "The Villes" series. Martin’s goal with The Villes adventures is to help children develop their problem-solving skills through entertainment.
Roberts has openly criticised the government for their law proposals to double the size of extensions that do not need approval in England; ergo using his platform and experience for the greater good.
Martin Roberts on I’m a Celebrity… Get Me Out of Here!
I’m a Celebrity … Get Me Out of Here! is one of the most successful series on ITV, and has been since it launched in 2001. Property expert and TV star Roberts, appeared on series 16 in November 2016, joining Gogglebox star Scarlett Moffatt, Olympian Sam Quek, former footballer Wayne Bridge, actor Larry Lamb, presenter Carol Vorderman, and former Strictly Come Dancing star Ola Jordan.
Roberts took part in multiple Bushtucker Trials during his time on the show. These included The Hungry Games: Rank Tanks, Rancid Retreat, Hell Hollow, Pick ‘n’ Critz, and more. Roberts was the seventh celebrity to leave the camp, just two days before the final episode.
Martin Roberts’ Success in Radio
Radio has played a huge part in Roberts’ life. He has worked as a reporter and producer for multiple BBC stations, including BBC Radio Merseyside and BBC Radio Manchester. He has reported on several programmes for Radio 4, such as ‘You and Yours’ and his own project, ‘The First Time’.
What Other Shows Has Martin Appeared On?
As a popular TV star, Roberts has appeared on many programmes over the years. He featured in two episodes of ITV’s hit Ant & Dec’s Saturday Night Takeaway in early 2021, playing himself in the show’s comedic segment "The Honoured". He appeared as himself alongside other stars such as Vernon Kay and Rob Brydon.
Roberts also took part in Celebrity Mastermind in 2021, and chose Thunderbirds as his specialist subject. He later discussed his love of Thunderbirds on episodes 157 and 158 of The Gerry Anderson Podcast.
No stranger to quizzes, Martin Roberts has been a contestant on Pointless Celebrities, Impossible Celebrities, Celebrity Chase, Celebrity Money for Nothing, and Tenable All Stars. Martin has appeared on Channel 5’s Jeremy Vine to discuss news, current events, and more.
Martin's Personal Life
There are a lot of deeper layers to Martin's life, the one being that he chooses to keep his family out of the spotlight. He married his wife Kirsty Roberts in 2010, and the pair have two children called Norman and Scott.
Homes Under the Hammer’s Martin Roberts maintains an active social media presence to interact with fans, and has made news headlines on numerous occasions. In July 2021, various news sites reported on Roberts being rushed to A&E and he was in hospital for six hours on what was supposed to be the first night of a camping holiday.
He updated fans on his injury via Twitter, revealing that his cellulitis – a bacterial skin infection usually affecting the leg or arm – had spread to his other leg, resulting in a swollen foot. This was due to a chemist denying Martin the antibiotics he’d been prescribed to treat the condition before his camping trip. Roberts admitted it was a painful experience, but while in hospital he took the opportunity to raise awareness of the risks associated with cellulitis and the pain it can cause.

FAQs
No, we will never process the payment until the order has been completed. When you initially book your video message, a hold for the total amount is placed on your account. This is only processed and authorised once the celebrity has completed the order. If it is not completed for any reason, your money will be released back to you.
You can choose a package based on what you are after.
Shout-out: If you want the talent to give you or someone else a shout-out and the video is for personal use (including as a gift for someone) then you should select the ‘shout out’ package.
Performance package: If you want the talent to carry out a performance, for example, to sing a particular song, and it is still for personal use, then please select the ‘performance’ package.
Business shout-out: If you are a business and would like either of the above, for an endorsement or congratulate an employee then select either the ‘business shout out’ or ‘business performance’ package.
Thrillz live: Select this package to meet your favourite celebrity in real life or virtually via Zoom for up to 20 minutes.
We urge you to triple-check your instructions before placing your order. But we’re only human, so if you identify an error in your instructions or would like to change them, please contact the Thrillz support team via our email support@thrillz.co.uk. Please note, the team will only be able to amend your booking if the celebrity has not yet completed your video request and within 24-hours of your purchase.
Celebrities have seven days to complete each order from the date of your booking. Although they complete the videos much quicker. If your request isn’t completed within that period, it will expire and you will receive an email notification from Thrillz. The temporary hold charge on your debit/credit card will be released.
Of course! Head to your dashboard, then ‘completed orders’ where you will find your awesome completed videos! You can then download and share with all your family and friends.
