Biography
Mary Fitzgerald is a successful realtor and one of the most popular cast members on the hit Netflix series Selling Sunset. She worked as an estate agent in London and New York before she joined the high-end Oppenheim Group in Los Angeles. Today, she is the company's Vice President and an accomplished member of the team.
Selling Sunset's Mary Fitzgerald - A Key Part of the Cast
Netflix has produced three seasons of Selling Sunset to date, with at least two more planned. The show has continued to grow in popularity since it launched in 2019, and was nominated for a prestigious Emmy Award for Outstanding Unstructured Reality Program in 2021.
Mary has been a major part of the show since the beginning, and continues to build a loyal fan base (particularly on Instagram). Her husband, Romain Bonnet, has also become a key cast member. Mary and Romain's wedding was a spectacular part of the show's second season.
What Did Mary Fitzgerald Do Before She Appeared on Netflix’s Selling Sunset?
Selling Sunset's Mary Fitzgerald has become a hugely popular figure since the show's first season hit Netflix in 2019. She graduated from Ball State University in Indiana in 2001, and entered the real estate industry in the South Bay in 2008.
Mary Fitzgerald honed her skills selling luxury properties in Redondo Beach, Hermosa Beach, and other desirable locations. She moved to London in 2011, and gained more invaluable experience as an estate agent with Knightsbridge's Candy & Candy firm. She also worked as a realtor in New York, working with various clients with high-end properties to sell.
When Did Mary Fitzgerald Start Working at the Oppenheim Group?
Mary eventually relocated to Los Angeles in 2014, and has worked at the real estate firm ever since. Along with Mary, Selling Sunset features other likeable realtors working at the high-end Oppenheim Group real estate brokerage company in Los Angeles.
This real estate firm specializes in luxury properties in some of the city's most glamorous areas. The show follows the cast as they try to make the next big deal, and explores their often complex relationships.
Who are Mary's Co-Stars on Selling Sunset?
Mary works alongside several other realtors on the show. Twins Brett and Jason Oppenheim are the company's co-founders. Christine Quinn, Chrishell Stause, Maya Vander, Heather Rae Young, Davina Potratz, Amanza Smith, and Vanessa Viella are all part of the series at one time or another (with Smith and Viella joining in season four). These cast members have also built large followings, with millions of combined followers on Instagram.
Mary has worked closely with Jason, and she represents sellers and buyers of luxury real estate in Los Angeles. She has hinted that she and fellow star, Christine Quinn, are experiencing some friction in their friendship as they film the new seasons of Selling Sunset. She told Metro that "things have happened" with Christine, but that fans would "have to watch" to find out exactly what that means.
Christine also married on the Netflix show, in season three. She made the unusual choice to wear a black wedding dress instead of the traditional white dress. This glamorous, visually striking wedding helped bring season three to a dramatic close.
When Did Mary Fitzgerald Get Married on Selling Sunset?
Mary Fitzgerald married her husband, Romain Bonnet, in the season two finale of Selling Sunset. It was revealed later that the couple had legally tied the knot in March 2018, well before they married on the show. So their marriage was a source of entertainment for the Netflix audience.
A representative for Mary and her husband told Us Weekly that they had a civil union ahead of their on-screen wedding because they were "still trying to see if their relationship would work out in the long term", and that they didn't consider themselves "properly married until the wedding that was filmed during the show."
The pair's love story had been a large part of the Netflix series since the first season. Mary's future husband proposed to her at the end of season one, and the follow-up season showed Mary planning her big day. Mary has praised her husband for being "very mature" and a "very strong man".
Who is Mary Fitzgerald's Husband, Romain Bonnet?
Mary's husband, Romain, is a successful model originally from France. Although surprisingly he also worked as a pastry chef before finding fame as a model. He soon became an essential part of the Selling Sunset cast alongside the hard-working estate agents.
Mary met Romain Bonnet when he visited the Hollywood area of Los Angeles. As his agent, she showed him some properties on the market, and the pair clicked. He's 13 years younger than Mary, but the couple's strong bond and winning chemistry clearly transcends their age gap.
The French model relocated to Los Angeles due to the large volume of bookings he secured in the area, and he has since become a project manager for some of the company's listings.
What Challenging Moments Has Mary Faced on Selling Sunset?
Mary has spoken out to the media of how frustrated she felt filming the Selling Sunset scene in which she confronted her husband, Romain Bonnet, about his bachelor party in Las Vegas. Speaking to Hello!, Mary said that she "didn't really want to talk about what happened" at the party, as she doesn't "like losing control or being hurt".
While she felt sure that the French model had remained completely faithful to her during his celebratory stay in Vegas, Mary Fitzgerald was disappointed to discover his friends had invited some women back to their hotel suite. Romain had insisted that wouldn't happen, and Mary was hurt that he hadn't told her about it. Mary has experienced deceit with her previous relationships, so she has vowed to protect herself.
"I knew he hadn't done anything," Mary said. "They didn't actually end up showing all of our conversation out of respect", but she assured Selling Sunset fans that "it all worked out behind the scenes."
Does Mary Fitzgerald Have Children?
Mary Fitzgerald has one child: a son, Austin. She gave birth to him at 16 years old, and raised him as a single parent. Viewers discovered that he was 21 years old during the first season. Later, fans watched Austin walk his mother down the aisle when she married Romain Bonnet on the Netflix show's second season finale.
How Do Austin and Romain Get On?
Austin is in his twenties, as is Mary's husband, but she has revealed that the pair "get along really well." She has said that she told Romain "you're 25 [years old], you're not really that much older than [her] son." However, she confirmed that Romain doesn't take on a "father role" as her son doesn't need it being a "grown man."
Who are Some of the Oppenheim Group's Celebrity Clients?
The firm has sold properties in Los Angeles to a number of A-list stars. Former Pussycat Doll, Nicole Scherzinger, bought a home in the Hollywood Hills from Jason Oppenheimer in 2016. It sold for more than $3.7 million.
Ellen DeGeneres also bought a property through the firm for $40 million, and Hollywood star Dakota Johnson purchased a picturesque home that appeared on the cover of Architectural Digest Magazine.
